Hollywood Restaurant has a long history indeed. Starting as a regular kopitiam in 1945, the eatery eventually evolved into a proper restaurant that covers Hainan cuisine. Hainanese dishes use milder seasonings and typically involve seafood.
Hollywood Restaurant has a variety of live seafood in fish tanks. We ordered a serving of Steamed Prawns (清蒸明虾, RM40.00). The shrimps are delightfully sweet and succulent.
Patin is a catfish native to the rivers of Indochina. Our serving of Steamed Patin (清蒸巴丁鱼, RM60.00) weighs nearly 1 kilogram. The fish is served with shiitake mushrooms and ginger.
The final dish is Kailan With Salted Fish (芥兰炒咸鱼, RM10.00). While the vegetable dish is acceptable, I think the salted fish should be cut into smaller pieces.
The seafood dishes at Hollywood Restaurant are reasonably tasty. Although the restaurant affords a nice view of the sea, the atmosphere can be further improved with better landscaping.
