Pasar Lebuh Cecil (七条路巴刹) is not only a wet market, but also has an appreciable number of food stalls. Most of these stalls operate in the morning only.
For today’s breakfast, I am trying the Cecil Street Sisters Fried Sago (姐妹七条路硕硪炒). It has been some time since I last tried this dish.
There are not many stalls that sell Fried Sago (硕硪炒, RM2.00) nowadays. Few hawkers are willing to go through the hassle of preparing this dish. First, raw sago is boiled until it takes the form of translucent paste. The paste then cut into bite-size pieces, then stir-fried with bean sprouts, soy sauce and chili paste.
Once cooked, the sago pieces have springy jelly-like texture. Although the pieces are translucent, this fact is not obvious due to dark soy sauce used for seasoning.
This stall’s Fried Sago has moderate spiciness and oiliness. The overall taste is acceptable, but I do not think it is incredibly special. Then again, there are not many stalls selling Fried Sago, so it is not that we have many choices anyway.
Meanwhile, I ordered a hot cup of Kopi-O (RM1.00). The dark roast is a great source of caffeine on a lazy weekend.
