Miang Kam (เมี่ยงคำ, RM8.50) is a popular street snack in Thailand. The name means “eating many things in a bite”. The main ingredients are bird’s eye chili (cili padi), shallots, peanuts, ginger, dried shrimps, garlic and lime. They are usually wrapped in wild betel leaves and flavored with savory fish sauce.
For my main dish, I ordered Gaeng Massaman (แกงมัสมั่น, RM19.00) which comes with rice. Originating in Persia, the recipe uses spices that are not commonly associated with Thai cuisine. The beef curry is saltier than desired, but otherwise it is a satisfying dish.
My meal comes with a glass of iced lemon tea. The drink helps to quench thirst on a hot Saturday afternoon.
