Special thanks to VOUK Hotel Suites for extending this food review invitation.

VOUK Hotel Suites is a 4-star hotel along Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah, sharing the same building as Mansion One. Thanks to its close proximity to Gleneagles Penang, VOUK Hotel Suites is a popular choice of accommodation for the medical tourism sector.

VOUK Hotel Suites has two main restaurants: C’est Si Bon Restaurant and Hardwicke House. The former serves as the hotel’s primary coffeehouse. This is also where in-house guests are served breakfast every morning.

Starting November 2018, C’est Si Bon is introducing a new buffet theme called “Let’s Get Fat! Fat-bulous Buffet Dinner”. This latest menu presents a combination of local and international flavors in a playful manner. The buffet is served every Friday and Saturday from 7:00pm to 10:00pm.

C’est Si Bon’s open kitchen allows food to be grilled in front of customers’ eyes. The grilled meats here include beef, lamb and chicken. Meanwhile, seafood choices are salmon, slipper lobsters and squid. Chicken satay is available too.

The carvery is where succulent slices of roast beef, roast lamb and roast chicken are served. The meats are served au jus and with mint sauce.

À la minute dishes include Lor Mee (卤面), Bolognese Spaghetti and Shawarma. My personal favorite is Char Koay Teow (炒粿条). This stir-fried noodle dish is prepared with a touch of toastiness. Although the dish is quite spicy, the amount of chili can be toned down as Char Koay Teow is cooked to order.

As for hot dishes, popular ones are Chicken Marmite, Yam Duck and Beef Stew. Diners who have an affection for seafood can go for Assam Fish, Prawn Har Loke Style and Seafood Pot Pie. Note that the actual dishes may vary from day to day.

Chilled seafood is prominently presented on a canoe. Served on the boat are marine delicacies like scallops, shrimps, mussels and oysters. Tabasco sauce and lemon wedges are provided.

The cold cuts section offers exquisite delicacies namely smoked duck, smoked chicken, smoked salmon and salmon gravlax. Also prepared are chicken ham, baloney, meatloaf, salad, bread rolls and cheeses.

Customers who are fond of Japanese food can help themselves to an assortment of sushi (寿司). Sushi is typically enjoyed with condiments like wasabi (山葵), pickled ginger (ガリ) and soy sauce (醬油). Other Japanese dishes include sashimi (刺身), unagi (うなぎ), seasoned jellyfish (中華クラゲ), seasoned seaweed (中華ワカメ) and edamame (枝豆).

Moving on to desserts, diners may indulge in sweet treats like butter cakes, cheesecakes, tiramisu, chocolate brownies, chocolate mousses, crème caramel, fruit jellies and Nyonya kuih. Furthermore, the chocolate fountain appeals to most people especially children.

As for waffles, customers may choose sweet toppings such as chocolate and peanut butter, or savory ones like tuna. Unfortunately, I feel that the waffle is too dry for comfort. In my opinion, I think the batter should be improved so that it feels lighter and airier.

I am impressed that the ice cream is presented in such an attractive manner. There are four flavors to choose from: mint, vanilla, chocolate and strawberry. Popular toppings like chocolate sauce, crushed peanuts and rainbow sprinkles are provided.

C’est Si Bon Restaurant’s Let’s Get Fat! Fat-bulous Buffet Dinner is priced at RM68.00 net for adults, and RM58.00 net for children and senior citizens. For an additional RM30.00, adults can enjoy a free flow of beer and wine throughout the entire evening.
