This article is part of my Ramadan 2020 compilation.

Special thanks to ibis Kuala Lumpur City Centre for extending this food review invitation.

ibis Kuala Lumpur City Centre is a 4-star hotel in the heart of the national capital. The property is within a short walking distance from Petronas Twin Towers. Kampung Kitchen at Level 10 is the main restaurant in the hotel.

Our visit to Kampung Kitchen this evening is to review the Selera Kampung Dinner Buffet 2020, which will be served every evening from 23 April 2020 to 23 May 2020. The menu features traditional Malay recipes that evokes nostalgia of carefree countryside life.

For starters, Briyani Rice uses long-grain basmati rice flavored with lovely spices. The rice dish comes with roasted lamb legs and hard-boiled eggs. Briyani Rice goes well with Gulai Ayam Kampung.

Ketupat palas and nasi impit are often served during Ramadan. These rice snacks are often eaten with serunding ayam (chicken floss) and serunding daging (beef floss).

Some of the hot dishes this evening are Daging Masak Hitam and Chicken Curry. The former is too oily in my opinion.

Oxtail Soup is cooked with beef and a variety of spices. I recommend that you add succulent chunks of beef tendon and oxtail. If you do not take beef, go for some Herbal Chicken Soup instead.

Fried Noodle is another classic favorite. The dish is topped with red chili for aesthetic appeal.

Steamed Fish is well received too. The sea bass is flavored with savory Nyonya sauce.

Yong Tau Foo consists of tofu and vegetables filled with ground meat and fish paste. Vegetables used here are bitter gourds, eggplants and red chili peppers.

Finally for desserts, diners can indulge in assorted Malay kuih, cakes, tarts, jellies and cookies.

Apam balik is recommended too. The snack contains crushed peanuts, creamed corn and sugar. We do not really like the egg tarts because the pastry crust is not flaky enough.

Throughout the evening, the restaurant’s ambience is lifted by the live performance of a 4-piece band. The musicians entertained the dining crowd with a number of festive Malay songs. The inclusion of Chinese and Indian oldies is truly unexpected!

The Selera Kampung Dinner Buffet 2020 at ibis Kuala Lumpur City Centre is priced at RM120.00 net per adult and RM30.00 net per child. For a limited time, the hotel is selling 2 adult vouchers for the price of 1. On top of that, get an extra buffet lunch voucher if you confirm your booking before 10 April 2020!
