Special thanks to Furama Bukit Bintang for extending this food review invitation.
Our second visit to Furama Bukit Bintang is to get a sneak peek of the upcoming Selera Kampung Buffet Dinner. The preview, as well as the actual buffet during Ramadan, is served at Spices @ Furama on Level 3.
The restaurant has an outdoor section next to the swimming pool. This is where the barbecue station is located. Throughout the evening, the barrel grill churns out an endless flow of hot food.
Kambing Bakar is the main attraction of Selera Kampung Buffet Dinner. The mutton goes particularly well with mint sauce. Other grilled items include chicken, beef, fish, mussels, prawns, sausages and satay.
As for hot dishes, Daging Masak Lemak Cili Api is cooked in a spicy gravy which contains coconut milk. If you enjoy red meat, another notable dish is Stir Fried Lamb With Ginger & Capsicum.
Ikan Masak Singgang is cooked with spices like lemongrass, galangal and chili peppers. The choice of fish is ikan tongkol (skipjack tuna). As for Udang Sambal Petai, prawns are unfortunately not as fresh as they should be.
If you enjoy the fiery kick of bird’s eye chili, Sotong Tumis Kampung suits your palate. As for something milder, Sayur Masak Lemak Buah Labu combines the sweetness of pumpkins and creamy coconut milk.
Rendang is one of my favorite dishes this evening. Two versions of rendang are prepared: Rendang Ayam (chicken) and Rendang Daging (beef). Rendang is customarily eaten with ketupat palas and lemang.
Moving on, Nasi Hujan Panas uses rice grains dyed in different colors to give an illusion of rain drops.
The dessert counter has a variety of Malay kuih, French pastries, puddings, mousses and jellies.
Chocolate lovers may indulge in rich cocoa at the chocolate fountain. Skewered marshmallows and grapes are provided.
As for sweet soups, diners can help themselves to pengat durian (durian soup) and bubur kacang hijau (mung bean soup).
And finally, the beverage counter serves Malaysian favorites such as milk tea, sirap bandung, soy milk, chocolate milk and teh tarik. Jumping on the recent bubble tea craze, Furama has specially prepared tapioca pearls to be added to any drink!
Furama’s Selera Kampung Buffet Dinner will be served every Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening from 1 May 2020 to 24 May 2020 (12 sessions in total). The walk-in adult price is RM98.00 net. Customers who book before 30 April 2020 are rewarded with discounted price of RM68.00 net only.
