Restoran Fatty Mee Hoon Kuih House (大肥面粉粿) is one of the more popular eateries at Taman Berkeley. The shop is located somewhere between Good Good Assam Laksa (姑姑亚参叻沙) and Mo Sang Kor Bak Kut Teh (巴生毛山稿肉骨茶).
The signature dish here is a type of noodles called “mee hoon kuih” (面粉粿), which is made from flour dough and is traditionally torn into small pieces by pinching the dough with fingers. However, this conventional style is not always available due to lack of manpower. Instead, a hand-crank noodle machine is used to save time.
This extra large bowl of Fatty Mee Hoon Kuih (大肥面粉粿, RM4.80) does not contain much noodles as I expected. The noodle used is called QQ noodle (QQ香滑面). Although decent in terms of texture and taste, I have tasted better ones before.
The soup is quite enjoyable thanks to the use of anchovies. Fortunately, no MSG is used. We requested for an egg for additional RM0.80.
Fatty Mee Hoon Kuih House gained notoriety for illegal “reservation” of public parking space – for its own convenience and to the inconvenience of the public. This is practiced despite the fact that the back entrance exists for a reason.
