Like New Water Garden, Restoran Orkid Intan (钻石花园饮食中心) is another breakfast place in Kuah, albeit being smaller in size. This hawker center is located within walking distance from Wonderland Food Store.
There is a stall which sells Singapore Hainanese Chicken Rice (新加坡海南鸡饭). For RM9.00, the platter consists of roasted chicken (烧鸡), roasted pork (烧肉) and barbecued pork (叉烧). I feel that barbecued pork is the sole saving grace; the other items are somewhat lackluster in taste.
The meal comes with oily rice (油饭) and cabbage soup. The rice lacks any form of fragrance that I expect from chicken-infused rice. I think this is an important area of improvement.
The cup of Kopi (RM1.20) is quite acidic, not because the beans were roasted lightly, but because they have passed their prime. The coffee’s sourness is not perceptible initially because condensed milk suppresses any unpleasantness early on.
