This article is part of my 2018 Kota Kinabalu trip series.
Strawberry Garden Hotel is a small hotel in Kundasang, Sabah. Perched on a small hill beside the main road, the hotel is approximately 4 kilometers from Kinabalu Park and 2 kilometers from Kundasang War Memorial. Strawberry Garden Hotel does not have a view of Mount Kinabalu because it is obstructed by the hill.
The main building is where guests check in. Next to the reception office is a small restaurant. The eatery is currently closed for renovations. Fortunately for us, there are other restaurants near the hotel.
The new hotel wing is constructed on a slope above the main road. There are 8 guestrooms here. Strawberry Garden Hotel is undergoing construction to add more rooms.
Our room is comfortably spacious for two persons. It is equipped with a king-size bed, television, dressing table, clothes iron and coffee-making utensils. The room comes with an attached bathroom with heated water. Towels and limited toiletries are provided.
Each room has a small private balcony that overlooks the main road and the valley beyond. Because the weather in Kundasang is only around 20oC, the room does not have air conditioning.
In-house guests are allowed to visit the strawberry garden within the hotel’s compound. It is open from 8:00am to 5:00pm. Admission is free for hotel guests, while non-guests are charged a paltry RM1.00 each.
In the terraced strawberry garden, there are rows of strawberry plants in individual pots or raised beds. Most strawberries are quite small and green in color. Perhaps the fruits are not ripe yet.
The check-in time and check-out time are 2:00pm and 12:00pm respectively. Considering the level of comfort and proximity to Kinabalu Park, Strawberry Garden Hotel is a decent choice of accommodation. Rooms can be booked by phone or online through Agoda.
