Update: This business has ceased its operations.
Operating at Khoon Hiang Cafe at Jalan Dato Keramat, Dayumm Burger recently opened its second stall at Golden Happy Cafe (金快乐茶室) at Sungai Nibong. This new outlet starts grilling around 7:30pm till late night, but usually sells out around 10:00pm.
At Dayumm Burger, the only type of meat patty used is pork, the entire pork and nothing but pork. If you want some else like chicken or fish, you need to look elsewhere.
The menu at Dayumm Burger is rather simple and illustrative. The basic burger is simply known as Dayumm, while the more adventurous carnivores can move up the food chain with The Baconathor (RM11.00) or the Ultimate Dayummnation (RM18.00).
We opted for something in between the extremes: the Complete Dayummnation (RM10.00). This burger has the complete set of ingredients which any self-respecting burger-lover will expect: pork patty, pork bacon, fried egg, cheese slice, grilled onions and lettuce and tomato slice. All these goodies are sandwiched between some wholemeal buns.
The patties are grilled in a gas-fired grilling oven. The mere sight of oil sizzling down the grill is a prelude to the meaty experience our tongues will soon enjoy. As for the onions and lettuce, they are grilled separately.
The burgers are served in nice iron skillets. I do not see a good reason not to use a simple plastic plate, so I believe the skillets are just for aesthetic purposes.
The pork patty is juicy and has a scrumptious, irresistible flavor. Dayumm Burger definitely knows its trade well. The size is pretty generous; almost 50% larger than the average patty elsewhere.
As for the buns, they are made with wholemeal bread and flavored with raisins. I have nothing against raisins, but I am not sure whether it goes best with burgers. Anyway, it is something special for a change.
The other condiments are reasonably good. Particularly absent is the pork bacon which was sold out for the night. To be fair, it the price of bacon is taken off the tab.
The waiting time can be pretty grueling due to the long queue ahead of us. I thought that a sufficiently-large grilling oven should be able to churn out more burgers in parallel. I guess the operators at this outlet are still new to the operations, so they may take some time to get familiarized.
