Ah Meng Restaurant is located inside the Singapore Zoo. It is named after the famed orangutan who lived in the zoo until 2008. The cafeteria-style restaurant is quite crowded during lunch time especially on weekends.
I placed an order for the Chicken Curry Briyani Rice (S$8.32). The briyani rice is served with chicken curry, yellow pea curry, yogurt chutney and a papadum cracker. The taste of spices is welcoming, and the food does not fail to satisfy my palate.
For drinks, I had a cup of Iced Lemon Tea (S$2.27).
In some Singaporean restaurants, the menu prices have awkward numbers because Goods and Services Tax (GST) is imposed on most retail transactions. After the 7% tax is applied, the final bill lands on a round number, therefore avoiding the need for small coin denominations.
