Jogoya (上閤屋) is a Taiwanese chain of Japanese restaurants that serves buffets on a daily basis. The sole Malaysian outlet is located in Starhill Gallery, Kuala Lumpur. With a floor area of over 30,000 square feet, Jogoya is one of the largest buffet restaurants in Malaysia!
Jogoya’s buffet menu has around 400 dishes distributed among 8 stations. Starting with shellfish on ice, we are pleased to see delicacies such as spanner crabs, escargots, mussels, scallops, oysters, abalones and baby octopus.
The sashimi (刺身) section has succulent slices of scallops, mackerel, kibinago, octopus and oysters.
Other sashimi choices are yellowtail, butterfish, salmon and tuna.
Tapas-style appetizers include octopus salad, prawn salad and omelette (玉子焼き).
Diners can help themselves to a large variety of sushi (寿司) of various shapes and toppings. Of course, my favorite inarizushi (稲荷寿司) is present too.
There is no shortage of cooked dishes in the buffet spread. Shown here are stir-fried yabbies in sweet and savory sauce.
Also present are chili crabs, a popular dish in Singapore. The dish is not as spicy as it looks.
Should you prefer to cook your own food, Jogoya provides self-service steamboat (鍋物) too. Simply pick your favorite soup and ingredients, and let the service attendant set up a gas stove at your dining table!
Jogoya has a special section for Western cuisine (西洋料理). Customers can expect to find crowd favorites such as fish fingers, oysters au gratin, T-bone steaks and fried chicken.
Chinese cuisine (中華料理) and Thai cuisine (タイ料理) are covered in the buffet too. In addition, the variety of Cantonese dim sum is commendable indeed.
Customers are spoilt for choice when it comes to desserts. The pastry section has an array of sweet treats such as cakes, cookies, puddings and chocolates. As for ice cream, Jogoya serves premium brands like Häagen-Dazs and New Zealand Natural.
And finally for drinks, the beverage counter has interesting cocktails like white angel, ocean blue, beer island and fruity red wine. As for non-alcoholic choices, there are espresso-based coffee, English tea, soft drinks, slushies and even coconut water.
Jogoya’s buffet is divided into lunch (11:00am-4:30pm), dinner (5:00pm-9:30pm) and supper (9:30pm-11:30pm) sessions. Dining time is limited to 2 hours per seating. Overall, the food quality and variety at Jogoya are undoubtedly superb.
