Special thanks to Eva’s Homemade Nougat for extending this product review invitation.
Eva’s Homemade Nougat is one of the very few nougat producers in Penang. This confectionery is probably still not so well known in Malaysia, but it is precisely its exoticness which makes Eva’s nougat an ideal souvenir or gift idea.
At present, Eva’s has 10 different nougat flavors to choose from. For most flavors, this gummy candy is punctuated with chipped almond nuts for better mouthfeel. The nougat feels hard and non-sticky when held with dry fingers. However, it becomes soft and chewy as it dissolves in the mouth.
If you are new to nougats, Plain Milk should the first one to start with. This nougat is the only one that does not contain any kind of nuts.
If you love fragrance of matcha, Green Tea is also a nice choice. This nougat contains crunchy almond nuts.
Should you prefer the aroma of coffee instead, the Coffee flavor is also available. The strength of coffee is surprisingly high.
Eva’s bestseller is the Cranberries flavor, and it is easy to understand why. The fruity taste of cranberries blends well with dairy milk.
In response to Malaysians’ fondness of durians, the Durian flavor is here to tantalize your taste buds. As the nougat itself is already sweet, the presence of durian is more prominent in terms of smell.
The Almond nougat is the closest type that one can get to the original version. Personally, I think the crunchiness of almonds helps to improve mouthfeel of this candy.
One may also like to try the Black Sesame flavor, which has the mild, distinctive taste reminiscent of fine black sesame seeds.
The Chocolate & Hazelnut flavor uses hazelnut chips in lieu of almonds. The taste of cocoa is quite bold, but fortunately hazelnuts help to balance the overall taste.
Taking a step further, almonds can also be replaced with macadamia nuts. Should you prefer the latter, the Macadamia Nut flavor can be your favorite choice.
Meanwhile, the Macadamia Nut & Rose Petal nougat gives floral scent to the previous flavor.
Ingredients used in Eva’s nougat are milk powder, almonds, egg whites, sugar, salt and vegetable oil. Eva’s products contain natural ingredients only; no preservatives, coloring nor flavoring are used. No meat products are used, therefore Eva’s products are suitable for ovo-lacto vegetarians. As a healthy food choice, Eva’s nougat contains less sugar compared to regular nougat recipes.
Each nougat is individually wrapped to preserve freshness. Eva’s nougat does not require refrigeration. However, freshness lasts longer when it is kept refrigerated or in an airtight container.
Eva’s Homemade Nougat has a flagship store in Pulau Tikus, as well as kiosks in Gurney Plaza and Queensbay Mall. Eva’s also has an online shopping portal with nationwide delivery service.
