At the former location of Sandwhich at i-Avenue is a new restaurant, Happy Meal (大家乐). This restaurant is just next to Sweet & Sweety Dessert Cakes.
The house specialty here is Happy Meal Special Fried Rice (大家乐椰浆饭, RM8.90). Actually this dish is not fried rice, but more like coconut milk rice (nasi lemak). Steamed rice is used so that the rice grains do not clump together.
This dish consists of a piece of fried chicken, chili shrimps, fried anchovies, boiled egg and sliced cucumber. Spicy chili paste is also provided on the side. The chili shrimps are quite nice, but I think more gravy should be provided. The chili shrimps should not be poured directly on the rice because they contain non-edible cumin seeds.
As for the chicken, it is marinated with lemongrass, then deep-fried in hot oil. While the marinade is praiseworthy, I feel that the surface of chicken is too dry. According to the restaurant, the chicken has not thawed sufficiently yet, therefore had to be cooked longer than usual for the interior to be done.
For each order of main dish, a drink is available for additional RM1.90. The choices of drink are coffee and orange juice. My choice today is the Happy Meal Coffee (香浓咖啡, RM2.80).
As for the Spicy Meat Shred With Steamed Rice (特制卤肉饭, RM6.30), I requested for the mini version for RM3.90. The pork is minced in the kitchen, then cooked in sweet gravy and served with fried garlic, julienned cucumber and boiled egg. Personally, I prefer the minced pork to be chopped into smaller pieces.
There are two types of homemade herbal teas at Happy Meal. One of it is Happy Meal Natural Tea (红枣龙眼茶, RM3.90) which is boiled from raw ingredients: red dates (红枣) and longan (龙眼). The drink is sweetened with brown sugar and rock sugar.
My verdict on Happy Meal: The food is acceptable in terms of taste and pricing. It is a suitable place for quick bites especially during lunch time. However, the number of menu choices is somewhat limited.
