Special thanks to Deli Diners Galley for extending this food review invitation.
Update: This business has ceased its operations.
Deli Diners Galley Street Western Cuisine is a new restaurant at Hillside. Occupying the former location of Marshall’s, this Western-style restaurant has a number of choices for poultry, lamb, beef, fish and pasta on its menu.
Deli Diners Galley serves contemporary Western cuisine that most Malaysians are familiar with. The owner and head chef used to work on a cruise liner. The word “galley” refers to a section of a ship where food is prepared.
Nearly all ingredients at Deli Diners Galley are prepared fresh in the kitchen. The chef prepares his signature brown sauce from scratch, which is used as the base for other sauces like mushroom, garlic, black pepper, onion and barbecue sauces.
As the restaurant has been open for barely more than one month, its menu is still evolving. Nevertheless, one of the most popular dishes among regulars is the Gratinated Mushroom Chicken With Garlic Sauce (RM15.80).
At the center stage is a piece of chicken cutlet, topped with mushroom slices and special sauce made from whipped cream, parmesan cheese and mozzarella cheese. The chicken is succulent on its own, but provides distinctively different appeal when enjoyed with the creamy sauce.
On the side are mashed potato, steamed vegetables that vary from day to day, and a piece of garlic bread. The plating of this dish is truly remarkable. Indeed, food presentation is an important aspect in Western cuisine.
As for drinks, I opted for something local: Milk Coffee (RM2.50). This Hainanese-style coffee has moderate strength and level of sweetness which bode well with the local palate.
In addition to the à la carte menu, Deli Diners Galley served set lunch (RM12.90) every day except on Sundays and public holidays. There are a handful of main dishes like chicken, fish and pasta to choose from. Soup and drinks are also included.
