Pearl Point Shopping Mall at Old Klang Road (Jalan Klang Lama) is the location of Ming Chu Restaurant (名厨奇怪煲海鲜饭店), a Chinese seafood restaurant with elements of Japanese cuisine. It is located on the 1st Floor of the mall and adjacent to Kotaro Sushi (小太郎すし), which is also under the same management.
One of the signature dishes here is Eel Claypot Rice (沙煲蒜香鳗鱼饭, RM188.00), a combination of Chinese-style claypot cooking with Japanese-style unagi (うなぎ). Apart from the standard savoriness of tare (垂れ) sauce, this claypot dish is largely similar to the sushi version. Since the supply of unagi is limited, ordering in advance is highly recommended.
Steamed Jade Perch (清蒸蓝宝鲈, RM9.50 per 100 grams) is another specialty at Ming Chu. The fish is known for its distinctive oily texture, although it is not quite as oily as what I had at Yu Xia Xie. The fish is cooked in clear soup, with garlic, bird’s eye chili (小辣椒) and parsley being added for improved flavor. Overall, this dish is well-balanced and enjoyable from start to end.
Nevertheless, the dish that I enjoyed the most here is Special Three Sauces Spare Ribs (三味排骨, RM42.00). One of the three sauces is based on lemon, but I am unable to discern what the other two are. The sauces work harmoniously with pork ribs to make this dish very appetizing indeed.
