Located at Kampung Jawa, Kitchen Chemistry takes advantage of its close proximity to the Bayan Lepas Free Industrial Zone. Oddly enough, the restaurant’s entrance is actually the back section of a house. As most of its customers are office workers, Kitchen Chemistry operates on weekdays only.
The menu consists mainly of Western dishes with Asian elements like masala and nasi lemak. Kitchen Chemistry promotes healthy cooking methods like roasting, braising and pan-frying. No pork is served here.
Mushroom Soup is complimentary for all customers. In light of rising food costs, not many restaurants serve free soup nowadays. Kitchen Chemistry also refrains from cutting corners, for instance opting to prepare the soup from actual mushrooms.
KC Classic Roast (RM14.90) is one of the most popular poultry dishes here. Marinated beforehand, the piece of chicken thigh and drumstick is cooked such that the flesh remains fairly juicy. Roasted chicken goes rather well with the brown sauce, which is prepared from chicken stock.
Served alongside the chicken is a slice of grilled tomato with a light sprinkle of grated cheese. As per tradition, mashed potato is prepared from actual potatoes. Last but not least, a small serving of garden salad serves as a counterbalance to the chicken.
Aloha Burger (RM18.90) is a new item on the menu. The patty is prepared from fresh chicken. Also sandwiched between two halves of a toasted bun are a pineapple ring, cheddar cheese and mayonnaise-based dressing. In particular, I enjoy the sweet-tangy taste of pineapple. There are also crinkle-cut fries and garden salad on the side.
Although Kitchen Chemistry is closed on weekdays, the premises is occasionally open on weekends for private events. According to the proprietor, there are plans to open a second outlet at Hin Bus Depot in order to capture the weekend business. The menu will be modified to cater for the more cosmopolitan crowd.
