The Wembley is a 4-star hotel in the heart of George Town. Located at Magazine Road (Jalan Magazine), the hotel is within a short walking distance from major shopping malls like KOMTAR, 1st Avenue and Prangin Mall.
Located at Level 2 is Wembley Cafe, the hotel’s all-day dining restaurant. Unlike many counterparts in other hotels, Wembley Cafe operates 24 hours a day. The à la carte menu covers a variety of local delights and international delicacies. This eatery is also where in-house guests have breakfast in the morning.
Although I have covered Wembley Cafe’s buffet meals on multiple occasions, this is my first taste of the à la carte menu. Complimentary morsels of appetizers are served shortly after customers are seated.
Nasi Goreng (RM31.00) is one of the most popular dishes on the à la carte menu. Fried rice is served with prawns, fried egg, fried chicken, chicken satay, fish crackers, vegetables and sambal (chili paste). The aroma of fried rice is mouthwatering indeed. It has the right level of spiciness to keep the taste buds tantalized.
As for noodle dishes, Hor Fun With Fermented Black Bean Gravy (RM29.00) is recommended by the staff. To prepare this dish, flat rice noodles are first fried in a wok. Once cooked, noodles are then braised with douchi, mushrooms and capsicum. Green chili peppers and soy sauce serve as condiments.
In addition to the à la carte menu, Wembley Cafe also serves buffet lunch and dinner on certain days of the week. The buffet theme is “Grill, Rotisserie & Seafood Medley” on Thursday and Friday. Meanwhile, “Japanese & Seafood Galore” buffet is served on Saturday and Sunday.
