Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa is a 5-star hotel in Sunway City. The hotel’s primary eatery is The Resort Café. The all-day dining restaurant serves a wide range of local delights and international dishes from around the world.
The Resort Café has an enormous dining area. One section of the restaurant affords a panoramic view of Sunway Lagoon. Exotic motifs on the walls reflect the cosmopolitan nature of the restaurant’s cuisines.
Today, The Resort Café is giving a sneak peek of the upcoming Christmas-themed buffets. This preview session only covers a subset of the actual buffet spreads, so diners can expect to see substantially more dishes in December.
As per tradition, the yuletide menu revolves around the Traditional Roasted Turkey at the carving station. Cooked to golden perfection, the turkey is paired with the chef’s special giblet gravy and cranberry-orange compote. Be sure to savour the cornbread stuffing too!
Diners are spoiled for choice when it comes to red meats. This year, The Resort Café is serving premium wagyu beef, which is prized for its marbled texture. Shown here are Slow Roasted Wagyu Beef Striploin and Oven Roasted Wagyu Beef Karubi. Beef is served with baby potatoes, beetroots, baby carrots and fragrant rosemary sprigs.
Wagyu beef can also be enjoyed as shawarma! The beef is marinated with Middle Eastern spices for several hours, and then roasted on a vertical spit. Cooked beef is shaved off the block and stuffed into pita bread. Other ingredients of Wagyu Beef Shawarma are tomatoes, pickled cucumbers, onions and frisée lettuce.
Risotto is an Italian rice dish which uses a special cultivar of rice. The rice is cooked with broth until it reaches a creamy consistency. Other ingredients of Risotto are beef bacon, smoked duck breast, clams, dried Roma tomatoes, asparagus and mushrooms. A hint of saffron gives the dish a distinctive yellow color.
Speaking of saffron, Seared Salmon Fillets & Mussels are cooked in rich saffron broth. The dish is garnished with asparagus and cherry tomatoes. Another chafing dish which I enjoyed is Slow Cooked Duck Breast On Truffle Jus.
Seafood on ice includes tiger prawns, raw oysters and several types of caviar. The prawns are extremely fresh; I enjoy their sweet taste and crunchy texture.
Yuletide confections play a key role during Christmas celebrations. One of the most iconic Christmas pastries is the Yule Log. Two versions of Yule Log are prepared this evening. The traditional version is coated with chocolate ganache, while the white version is covered with grated coconut.
Dresdner Stollen is a traditional cake-like bread from Germany. The bread is filled with candied fruits and nuts, and has a modestly dense texture. Icing sugar on top gives the illusion of snow.
Christmas Pudding is another essential dessert during the holiday season. The pudding is topped with red berry coulis, and is further garnished with blueberries, blackberries, strawberries and raspberries. I am also fascinated by the dainty Santa Cupcakes with festive icings.
Gingerbread Man and Gingerbread House are simply eye-catching. In case you just want a morsel to nibble on, there are smaller, star-shaped pieces of gingerbread too. Also present this evening is Panettone, an Italian sweet bread that is typically prepared during the Christmas season.
Other mouthwatering desserts that bring out the festive spirit of Christmas are Raspberry Éclairs, Tiramisu, Assorted Macarons, Pecan Tarts, Mango Compote Panna Cotta and Blueberry Compote Panna Cotta.
Last but not least, Pumpkin Bread & Butter Pudding is prepared from buttered bread and a custard mixture made of milk and spices. As the theme is Christmas, the pudding is infused with pumpkins too. Vanilla sauce is provided.
I am thrilled to quaff a refreshing “glass” of virgin Piña Colada, which is interestingly served in a hollowed-out pineapple. The pineapple-flavored drink does a great job in quenching thirst. Its tangy taste is gratifying indeed.
In the days leading up to Christmas, The Resort Café serves “Let The Feasting Begin” buffet lunch from 13 December 2019 to 23 December 2019 (except on Sundays). Meanwhile, dinner is available daily between 13 December 2019 and 21 December 2019.
The Resort Café has more elaborate Christmas menus closer to Christmas. As expected, the most extravagant feast is served in the evening of Christmas Eve. On Christmas Day itself, The Resort Café serves both buffet lunch and dinner. Customers who confirm their bookings before 15 December 2019 enjoy 20% discount on the regular prices.
