During our recent stay at DoubleTree by Hilton @ i-City, we had the opportunity to experience the Dinner Buffet at Makan Kitchen. Coincidentally, there was also a corporate gathering scheduled on the same day, which further proves that this five-star hotel, DoubleTree by Hilton @ i-City, is indeed one of the best places in the area for company gatherings.

Makan Kitchen offers a wide variety of dishes, showcasing a diverse and international selection. The restaurant’s ability to cater to different palates and preferences is truly impressive, making it a popular choice not only among locals but also with visitors from around the world.

Among the vast array of dishes available at the buffet, there were several standout creations that truly impressed us. Please read on!

Indian Kitchen

The Indian cuisine at Makan Kitchen was a true revelation. Each dish was a symphony of aromatic spices, skillfully blended to create a harmonious and exquisite taste. The chefs at Makan Kitchen truly captured the essence of Indian cooking by allowing the spices to shine, resulting in a culinary experience that was both comforting and adventurous.

Mushroom Mutter

Mushroom Mutter, a classic Indian dish, is a creamy curry made from mushrooms and green peas. Although peas are an ancient ingredient in India, the origin of this particular dish does not have a clear historical record. Mushrooms, on the other hand, are not a traditional ingredient in the country, suggesting they were likely introduced to India from other regions and gradually incorporated into local cuisine over time and across regions.

To prepare Mushroom Mutter, fresh ingredients such as tomatoes, onions, chilies, garlic, ginger, turmeric, cilantro, coriander seeds, and various spices are used to create a rich and flavorful sauce. This dish can be served as a main course or a side dish, complementing rice or Indian flatbreads like roti or naan.

Fish Amritsari

Fish Amritsari is originally a popular fish appetizer, but we enjoyed it as a side dish with our rice. This delightful dish features fish coated in chickpea flour and a blend of spices, then deep-fried to a crispy texture. The combination of flavors and the crunchiness of the fish make it a perfect complement to any meal.

Cheese Naan / Assorted Chutney / Vegetable Dhal

Cheese Naan is a delightful variation of the traditional Indian flatbread, Naan, enriched with yogurt and cheese. Tonight at Makan Kitchen, we savored the Cheese Naan with its crispy melted cheese on the surface, while the inside remained soft and infused with a rich cheese flavor. To complement the Naan, we had Assorted Chutney, which is a blend of fruits or vegetables with spices and lemon juice, perfect for dipping the flatbread. Additionally, we enjoyed Vegetable Dhal, a creamy curry made from legumes and vegetables, commonly served as a delectable accompaniment to the Naan.

Chicken Tikka

In addition, we also tried Baigan Masala and Lamb Korma, both of which are worth a try.

Double Boil Soup

Highly recommended! This soup is rich and flavorful, with the perfect level of simmering. The ingredients used in the stew include black chicken, cordyceps flower, dried longan, American ginseng, red dates, and goji berries. The soup is clear and sweet, with a slight bitter aftertaste. The chicken meat has been stewed to a tender and succulent texture, simply melting in the mouth. The combination of these premium ingredients creates a nourishing and delightful soup that leaves a lasting impression.

Fried Rice

Don’t underestimate this fried rice! The simplest dishes are often the ones that truly test a chef’s skills. Although it’s not an omelette fried rice, this dish is still a testament to the chef’s expertise. The fried rice is beautifully cooked with a glossy and aromatic finish, and every grain is plump and perfectly separate, not clumped together.

Nasi Minyak

The ghee-infused fragrant rice, paired with an assortment of fried delights, creates an authentic and delightful culinary experience. Combined with the crispy and savory fried items, it’s a perfect combination of textures and tastes that showcases the essence of authentic cuisine.

Sambal Kupang

Satay & Condiments

Ulam-ulaman & Sambal

These traditional delicacies showcase the unique charm and flavors of Malay culture.

Appetizers

The appetizers here are truly innovative, both in presentation and taste, and they have tempted us to try more. The Waldorf Salad, with its hint of sweetness from the apples, and the refreshing flavor of the Beetroot Salad have left a delightful impression on our palates.

The hydroponically grown vegetables are a big hit here! We get to cut the vegetables ourselves and top them with our favorite sauces. The freshness of the vegetables is remarkable, they are crunchy and bursting with flavor, quite different from what we usually have.

Desserts

Try the Snake Fruit!

ABC – Air Batu Campur

Malaysian Local Dessert: Cendul, Bubur Pulut Hitam, Bubur Kacang Hijau
