Did you know that Le Méridien Petaling Jaya’s Chinese banquet kitchen, despite being halal-certified, offers authentic dishes those of rival traditional Chinese restaurants? Today’s preview of the 2024 Lunar New Year Set Menu is held at Pasar Baru, the hotel’s all-day dining restaurant.

The 2024 Lunar New Year set menu will be available from 8 January to 15 February. There are two menu options, each serves ten persons and requires at least one day advance booking.

Our culinary experience covers selected dishes from these set menus, and our verdict is – exceptional! We highly recommend considering Le Méridien Petaling Jaya for your Lunar New Year gatherings or joyous wedding banquets.

Toss for Good Luck: Prosperity Smoked Salmon Yee Sang

The Yee Sang features more than 13 ingredients, including strawberries, cilantro, and tangerine peel. Each ingredient has a symbolic meaning, and the tossing ritual is accompanied by shouts of good wishes.

Did you know?
Each ingredient symbolizes a unique blessing!
For instance, when the crispy toppings are generously sprinkled, the host exclaims "金玉满堂" (May wealth and treasures fill your home), and the guests respond with a hearty "收到!" (Received and acknowledged). It's not just a meal; it's a symphony of wishes, a culinary journey where each bite carries a message of hope and abundance.

The smoked salmon slices are not just large; they’re a testament to opulence. Don’t worry about losing them in the mix. 😝

The art of crafting the perfect Yee Sang extends to the meticulous preparation of each component. All ingredients need to be cut into thick, consistent strips to ensure that ensures that every bite is a harmonious blend of flavors.

Abundance in Every Sip: Double Boiled Chicken Soup with Morel Mushroom

In the realm of traditional Chinese feasts, the “Four Eight Delicacies” hold a special place, encompassing “Mountain Delicacies,” “Sea Delicacies,” “Poultry Delicacies,” and “Herbal Delicacies.” Among the herbal treasures, the Morel mushroom, also known as “羊肚菌”, takes center stage. With its distinct appearance resembling the folds of a sheep’s stomach, this unique fungus adds both texture and visual appeal.

This soup is a treasure trove of ingredients. Besides Morel mushroom, the soup also contacts bamboo pith, caterpillar fungus, and cordyceps.

Wishing for Prosperity: Roasted Pipa Sesame Chicken with Seafood Sauce

A dish that combines tradition with exquisite taste. Each bite reveals a succulent tenderness, with the chicken retaining its natural juiciness. The ingenious combination of flavors is enhanced by the aromatic sesame seeds, creating a symphony of taste that resonates with each mouthful.

This dish is accompanied by a tantalizing seafood sauce and honey. Adding a delightful touch are the customary prawn crisps and seasoned salt, elevating the dining experience with a perfect balance of savory and sweet notes.

Smooth and Savory: Deep Fried Pomfret Fish with Superior Soy Sauce

The Crispy Pomfret Fish is artfully deep-fried to achieve a perfect outer crunch while preserving the delicate tenderness within. What sets this dish apart is the bespoke aromatic sauce that elevates the pomfret’s natural flavors, ensuring each bite is a celebration of freshness.

Weighing in at approximately 1.2kg, the choice of the Pomfret is both rare and fascinating. The thickness of the fish guarantees a satisfying bite, a testament to the culinary expertise at Le Méridien Petaling Jaya.

Laughter and Joy: Wok Fried Tiger Prawns with Homemade Sauce

In the tapestry of Cantonese celebrations, shrimp, phonetically similar to “ha” in Cantonese, takes center stage on festive tables. The dish features succulent tiger prawns, known for their firm texture even after cooking, ensuring a delightful crunch with every bite. The combination of fresh tiger prawns and the aromatic homemade paste creates a symphony of flavors that is both bold and irresistible.

As a visual feast, the dish is adorned with the distinctive head and tail of a dragon, making it not only a gastronomic delight but also a work of art.

Celebrating Good Fortune: Braised Sea Cucumber with Mushroom, Dried Oyster, Black Moss and Seasonal Greens

Step into a realm of culinary opulence with the Sea Cucumber Stew! As the most eye-catching creation on the menu, the stew is a testament to the hotel’s commitment to providing a satisfying dining experience. Premium ingredients such as sea cucumber, shiitake mushrooms, and flavorful oyster, ensure that every diner leaves with contented palates.

While the photograph may not fully capture the grandiosity of this dish, its impressive size is a delightful surprise for those seeking a Lunar New Year feast that goes beyond expectations.

Wealth in Every Bite: Black Truffle Fried Rice with Baby Abalone and Crab Meat

Truffles, once reserved for Western cuisine, have found their way into the heart of Chinese culinary artistry at Le Méridien Petaling Jaya. The result is a surprising and harmonious marriage of flavors.

Family Reunion Dessert: Braised Yam Cream with Sesame Glutinous Rice Ball

Unlike traditional desserts, Le Méridien’s rendition stands out for its silky-smooth texture and intense yam fragrance. The absence of any graininess in the yam filling enhances the overall experience, leaving guests craving for more of this warm, comforting delight.

Crispy Prosperity: Deep Fried Katafi Nian Gao Roll

And let’s not forget the quintessential Chinese New Year treat – the Glutinous Rice Cake, namely Nian Gao. Ending the meal with the traditional Chinese New Year treat, rice cakes are coated in a crispy layer, offering a delightful crunch.
