Buka Puasa by the Sea: DoubleTree by Hilton Damai Laut Resort

Share with your friends now!

Our stay at DoubleTree by Hilton Damai Laut Resort coincides with the month of Ramadan, therefore we have the opportunity to experience the iftar buffet here. Just like its sister properties, the buffet theme this year is “Merentasi Tradisi Sajian Dulu dan Kini“. Despite the resort’s relative seclusion, the dinner here is buzzing with large corporate groups. Let’s explore what attracts so many companies in the Manjung District to this beachside resort!

Merentasi Tradisi Sajian Dulu dan Kini • DoubleTree by Hilton Damai Laut Resort

Dining Atmosphere

In conjunction with Ramadan and the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations, the resort is adorned with festive props and ornaments.

Dinner is served at Makan Kitchen, the resort’s flagship restaurant.

The indoor dining area is air-conditioned, providing a comfortable space for everyone. Charming bamboo lanterns illuminate the hall, further enhancing the relaxing atmosphere here.

Outdoor dining is immensely popular too, especially during the evening as the sun sets over the horizon. One is easily mesmerized by idyllic views of the sea.

In the event of large crowds like what we have today, Makan Kitchen has an overflow dining area next to the swimming pools. Seating arrangements can be customized for each dining party.

Grill Station

Malaysians are particularly fond of barbecued food. This is particularly while feasting at a beachside resort.

The prawns are crunchy and succulent, with a slight char from the grill. Meanwhile, the chicken wings are also delicious to the last morsel!

Ikan kembung (mackerels) and ikan pari (stingrays) are cooked in aluminum foils to ensure that they remain juicy.

Kambing golek is served too. The lamb is roasted over burning charcoal to give a touch of toastiness!

Several dipping sauces are provided to go with barbecued foods.

Nasi Buqari

Another main highlight this evening is Nasi Buqari, a popular rice dish from Saudi Arabia.

Executive Chef of DoubleTree by Hilton Damai Laut Resort, Chef Shahril

Nasi Buqari comes with a special blend of spices, served separately in a coconut bowl.

This is an alternative presentation of Nasi Buqari. This time, the rice is topped with roasted lamb!

If you like seafood, the prawn fritters will strike a chord with your palate! Also available are tasty balls of fritters called jemput pisang (also known as cekodok pisang).

Roti Jala & Lempeng

Roti jala and lempeng are also crowd favorites. The former is soft and fluffy, while the latter is crispy and carries a hint of coconut.

Accompanying condiments are chicken curry, sambal ikan bilis, Thai sauce, Kampung Koh chili sauce and kaya. Kampung Koh chili sauce is specialty from the neighboring town of Sitiawan, so you may want to give this local product a try!

Kawah Dishes

Bubur Lambuk is an essential during Ramadan. The congee is typically served in a communal setting, which explains why a kawah (large wok) is used.

Gulai Kawah Daging

Gulai Kawah Daging is the signature dish Chef Mamat, who is the main architect of many dishes this evening.
