As part of McDonald’s on-going promotion of Brekkie Wrap breakfast meals, this fast food franchise is offering a Brekkie Wrap for RM1.00 each on selected Monday mornings. This offer is only for the Chicken Roll type (offer does not apply to Sausage type) and limited to one person.

I visited the Sungai Dua outlet at 7:00am sharp, the moment this offer starts. Apparently there is already a long queue ahead of me.

Another RM3.00 upgrades the meal with Hash Browns and Coffee. In retrospect, I think this is where McDonald’s recoups its earnings.

The Brekkie Wrap is essentially a tortilla wrap with chicken rolls, scrambled eggs and cheese fillings. It is not particularly special considering that tortilla wraps have been introduced in Malaysia for several years already. Anyway, I fail to see or taste any particular goodness in this Brekkie Wrap.

Perhaps the jaw-dropping surprise is the puny size of the Brekkie Wrap. There is only enough food for 4-5 bites. I am confident that I can make it in 2 bites if I really need to (this is not a statement that I take lightly). The usual price of Brekkie Wrap is RM4.30; I wonder how many people are willing to pay for this?

The Hash Browns is also kid-sized. Either McDonald’s is targeting on preschoolers demographics, or I have been duped.

The Coffee is served in an 8 oz cup. The size doesn’t matter as it can be refilled anyway.

To conclude, the promotional price for the Brekkie Wrap is OK for such a small wrap, but I will stay away from this at the normal price.

  1. You got a good point there. 🙂

Based on its TV advertising, I think McDonald's is trying to portray a "eat on the way to work" concept. But for such a small portion at RM4.30? I am not sure whether this is the best marketing strategy. 🙂

Thanks for dropping by. If you are interested, please feel free to subscribe the newsletter, add me to your circles, +1 this site, or all of the above. All can be done at the top-right of this page. 🙂

  2. Wow! I didn't know that, thanks for sharing about the McD sizes. I always thought it was the regular size coz I've never ever had the RM 1 promotion before.

Some places (like the one closest to me) has a quota e.g. if they fill it, they'll say it's sold out, even though it's not, coz they're only allowed to give x amount of RM 1 wraps out per day so I could never get it coz there's a looong queue (it's an office area).

  3. Thanks for dropping by, Huai Bin. 🙂

You are right about the quota. The T&C states that only 1 piece per person, up to maximum 300 per outlet. But at some outlets, some not-so-thin-skinned customers demanded 5 or 10 pieces each. The staff relented as they did not want to create an ugly scene. 🙂

Thankfully I arrived early to get mine. And thankfully I discovered the serving size, so I know that I will not be spending RM4.30 at normal price. 🙂

  4. LOL, it seems that my jaw was not the only one being dropped. :-p

I think many people were disgusted when they saw the portion.

As usual, the advertisement photos are for "illustration purpose only". I wonder what's there to illustrate if it does not reflect reality. 🙂
