Copthorne Orchid Hotel Penang is a seaside hotel at Tanjung Bungah. Managed under Millennium Hotels And Resorts, this 318-room hotel provides guests with amenities such as swimming pool, fitness center, business center and convenience store.
Many hotel rooms have sea-facing windows which provide scenic views especially during sunset. There is also elevator access to the sandy beach.
Terrace Bay Restaurant is one of the two main restaurants at Copthorne Orchid; the other is Hu Ji Chinese Restaurant. Terrace Bay serves as the “main” eatery as it is open 24 hours and caters breakfast for hotel guests.
Besides indoor dining, Terrace Bay also provides al fresco dining for guests who prefer to enjoy the refreshing sea breeze that never seems to abate.
Every Friday evening between 7:00pm and 10:00pm, Terrace Bay serves the Western Galore Buffet Dinner. This continental-style buffet offers a combination of local-inspired dishes and Western-style cuisine. The buffet is priced at RM49.00 for adult and RM30.00 for child (between 4 and 11 years old). These are net prices.
For starters, the Braised Beef Ribs is a carnivore’s paradise. Served over mashed potatoes, the taste of beef is further enhanced by a bed of savory gravy.
Meanwhile for poultry, the Chicken Cordon Bleu has been conveniently cut into slices to allow diners to enjoy smaller portions.
The Seabass Fillet is nicely seasoned with butter with herbal infusion. The tender flesh is quite delectable and is certainly recommended.
Lamb Moussaka is a Greek dish made from ground lamb, eggplant (brinjal) and tomato sauce. Although fairly common in the Mediterranean and Middle East, the actual recipe of moussaka varies from place to place.
Italian cuisine is represented by Pasta With Crabmeat & Roasted Broccoli. Spaghetti is cooked al dente, but I think it would be nice to have some dried chili flakes to spice things up.
As counterbalance to meaty dishes, it is prudent to take some Buttered Mixed Vegetables, which consist of steamed broccoli, cauliflower and carrots.
Green Pea Soup is slightly dilute, but otherwise quite soothing to the throat. Garlic bread and bread rolls are provided to go with the soup. I think the garlic bread is too dry because it has been exposed to air for some time. I also prefer stronger garlic butter flavor.
At the salad section, the French-inspired Niçoise Salad is made from tuna, tomatoes, hard-boiled eggs and vinaigrette dressing.
My personal favorite salad is the Greek Salad with feta cheese. Made from sheep’s milk, feta cheese has distinctively creamy texture compared to other types of cheese.
Moving on to desserts, the Chocolate Cake is covered with chocolate icing and topped with chocolate-flavored macarons.
The Strawberry Cake is a fluffy sponge cake, attractively presented in the likeness of rose flower.
Bread & Butter Pudding is best enjoyed with sweet vanilla sauce.
For quick bites, there are mini fruit tartlets with peach, kiwi and strawberry toppings.
There are also jellies and fruit puddings served in wine glasses. In addition, crème caramel is also available to satiate your sugary cravings.
Finally, a platter of pineapples, watermelon, honeydew and watermelon concludes a satisfying meal.
Several dishes from the buffet are also featured in the Daily Western Set promotion, with prices starting from RM22.00. Another buffet here at Terrace Bay is the Nyonya Buffet Dinner on Saturdays. It is also important to note that Terrace Bay is a halal-certified restaurant.

Directions: Traveling westbound on Jalan Tanjung Bungah, make a U-turn after the pedestrian bridge near Dalat International School. After the U-turn, Copthorne Orchid Hotel Penang is roughly 100 meters past the pedestrian bridge. Terrace Bay is located one floor below the lobby. The hotel provides complimentary outdoor and indoor parking.
