D’ Fat Mona Lisa is a restaurant-cum-café at Free School Road (Jalan Free School). The eatery occupies a large semi-detached house with parking spaces within its premises. D’ Fat Mona Lisa is a popular eatery among parents whose children are enrolled in nearby schools.
D’ Fat Mona Lisa primarily serves coffee and Western dishes. As for customers who prefer light meals, homemade cakes are available too. Breakfast is served till 11:00am (till 11:30am on Sundays). The standard breakfast menu has around 12 dishes to choose from.
In response to popular demand, D’ Fat Mona Lisa just added a healthy breakfast menu last week. Like the main breakfast menu, each of the five new dishes comes with free flow of coffee or tea.
Avocado On Toast (RM23.00) is the ideal choice for avocado lovers like yours truly. The oven-baked sourdough bread is spread with béchamel sauce and avocados. I love the cooling sensation of fresh avocados in my mouth. Also included are overnight oats, garden salad and a skewer of fresh fruits.
Another hearty dish is Sweet Purple (RM23.00). This alluring dish centers on mashed sweet potatoes, which are naturally purple in color. Each heap is topped with a poached egg that is slightly runny. Meanwhile, side items are identical to the previous dish.
I also ordered a seafood dish from the à la carte menu: Pan Grilled Snapper & Prawn Salsa Verde (RM38.00). Salsa verde provides a hint of pungency. The fish fillet and prawns are complemented by juicy bell peppers. This dish comes with roasted potatoes, cherry tomatoes and corn too.
At D’ Fat Mona Lisa, all ingredients including sauces are prepared from scratch in the kitchen. For health reasons, the restaurant has also replaced regular cooking oil with olive oil. D’ Fat Mona Lisa does not serve pork.
Since my previous visit, the front section of D’ Fat Mona Lisa has been converted into an air-conditioned dining area. The extra space allows the restaurant to accommodate more customers. Thanks to ample parking spaces, D’ Fat Mona Lisa is a popular venue for private parties.

Directions: From Penang Free School, drive along Jalan Free School towards the round-about. D’ Fat Mona Lisa Café is about 100 meters before the round-about, just opposite the retirement home. There is ample parking space within the compound.
