This article is part of my Ramadan 2020 compilation.
Special thanks to Sime Darby Convention Centre for extending this food review invitation.
Update: This business has ceased its operations.
Sime Darby Convention Centre (SDCC) is located at Bukit Kiara, Kuala Lumpur. The facility is within a short drive of TPC Kuala Lumpur, which is also managed by Sime Darby.
Besides hosting business and social events, Sime Darby Convention Centre has several eateries that are open to the public. Halia at Level 1 serves as the all-day dining restaurant.
From 24 April 2020 to 21 May 2020, Halia is serving Truly Asia Malaysian Ramadhan Buffet. The normal price is RM114.85 net. But for early birds, the price can be as low as RM69.00 net only.
Starting with Nasi Kambing Bukhara, the rice is cooked with lamb and fragrant spices. The dish is also topped with hard-boiled eggs, cashew nuts, lemons and coriander.
Baked Venison With Saffron Rice is another signature dish. This time, the rice is cooked with saffron for the lovely aroma and distinctive yellow hue.
Also included are Ekor Asam Pedas, Kari Kepala Ikan Salmon, Bubur Lambuk Berherba and Aneka Sup Berempah.
In conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2020 campaign, the menu includes several regional dishes that delight one’s palate. Shown here are Stir-Fried Beef (Chinese) and Salted Egg Prawns (Singaporean).
Other notable dishes are Chicken Adobo (Filipino), Perut Masak Kalio (Indonesian) and Stir-Fried Squid (Vietnamese).
The buffet spread also covers crowd favorites like Chicken Satay, Vietnamese Chicken Rolls, Japanese Teppanyaki and Korean Sizzler Hot Plate.
Malay kuih is part and parcel of an iftar meal. Interesting choices are tapai pulut daun getah, cara manis, kuih bakar, seri muka and kuih lapis. Other popular desserts are bubur pulut hitam, serawa durian, sago gula melaka and ais kacang.
Another restaurant in Sime Darby Convention Centre, China Treasures, has a separate Ramadan promotion. For fixed price, customers may enjoy unlimited orders from the à la carte menu.
Signature dishes at China Treasures are Shanghai-Style Steamed Tilapia Fish, Deep-Fried Vietnamese Sugarcane Prawns and Roasted Pipa Duck.
There are more than 20 types of dim sum on China Treasures’ menu. As for diners who love Japanese food, the restaurant also serves tempura, sushi, sashimi and dorayaki too.
Meanwhile, D’Atap Gazebo is offering Steamboat & Grill Ramadhan Buffet as an alternative form of dining. The buffet will be held at the concourse area instead of the restaurant itself.
As the name implies, the Steamboat & Grill Ramadhan Buffet allows diners to boil and barbecue food at the same time. Meat, seafood, tofu, mushrooms, vegetables and noodles are included in the buffet.
