Special thanks to Element Kuala Lumpur for extending this food review invitation.
Element Kuala Lumpur is a 4-star hotel in Ilham Tower. Trace Restaurant & Bar is the hotel’s sole eatery. Perched on Level 40, the restaurant affords panoramic views of the city center.
Today, Trace Restaurant & Bar is hosting a media preview for the upcoming Selera Malaysia Dinner Buffet. The menu features a variety of traditional dishes from around Malaysia.
Since Satay is the most popular item on the à la carte menu, it is not surprising to include it in the buffet. There are 2 versions: chicken and beef. Marinated to perfection, the skewered meats are succulent indeed. Satay is served with peanut sauce, lemang, nasi impit (pressed rice) and serunding (meat floss).
Another classic dish, Roti Jala, is well received too. The snack is prepared by drizzling batter onto a griddle using a special cup. Besides the usual yellow color Roti Jala, there is a pandan-flavored version too. Roti Jala is typically eaten with chicken curry.
Hailing from Kelantan, Nasi Dagang uses wild rice which is purple in color. The rice is wrapped in banana leaves for better aroma. Nasi Dagang is served with Terengganu-style Kari Ikan Tongkol & Acar.
By popular demand, several elements of Let’s Meat Up In The Sky Dinner Buffet is incorporated into the menu. For instance, diners can enjoy sizzling hot lamb, beef, fish, squids and sausages from the grill station.
Honey Mustard Butterfish is one of my favorite dishes today. The fish is served with roasted vegetables, saffron sauce and mango salsa. In addition, Kambing Golek and Nasi Briyani are recommended too.
Ulam-ulaman are assorted vegetables such as daun pegaga, winged beans and cabbage. The raw vegetables are typically eaten with condiments like sambal belacan (spicy shrimp paste), air asam (tamarind sauce), budu (fermented anchovies) and cincalok (fermented shrimps).
Fried items include vegetable tempura, lekor, cucur ikan bilis, samosas, curry puffs and pisang goreng (fried bananas). Furthermore, there are several types of keropok (crackers) in airtight jars.
As for Chinese-style dishes, go for Roasted Chicken and Roasted Duck. Poultry is served with oily rice, chili sauce, minced garlic and dark soy sauce.
The Japanese section presents a mouth-watering assortment of sushi and sashimi to delight one’s palate. Wasabi, pickled ginger and soy sauce are provided.
Bread & Butter Pudding is traditionally served with vanilla sauce. The dessert goes surprisingly well with Serawa Durian too.
Last but not least, diners may indulge in Malay cookies like kuih bangkit, rempeyek, kuih kapit, bahulu and more. Other sweet treats include dodol, Nyonya kuih and French pastries.
The Selera Malaysia Dinner Buffet is served from 29 April 2020 to 22 May 2020. The meal is priced at RM148.00 net for adults and RM74.00 net for children.
