Phase One: October 4, 1991 – August 15, 1992
During the initial phase, construction workers prioritized widening the surrounding roads and conducted extensive excavation work in the area.
Phase Two: July 6, 1992 – April 15, 1993
At this stage, the team focused on the tower’s foundation and underground levels. During this period, they set a Malaysian construction record by continuously pouring approximately 50,000 cubic meters of concrete within 31 hours (without piling).
Within the KL Tower, there is a Mini Theater that cyclically showcases the construction process of KL Tower. Visitors can enjoy this presentation free of charge without the need for prior reservations.
Phase Three: May 1994
In this stage, the team commenced the construction of the tower shaft and then proceeded to build the tower head. Simultaneously, the tourism infrastructure development began. The beautiful glass dome in the tower base hall, featuring Muqarnas design, was crafted by skilled artisans from Esfahan, Iran.
Topping Out Ceremony: September 13, 1994
The topping-out ceremony took place, during which the then-Malaysian Prime Minister, Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad, placed the antenna mast on top of KL Tower. The tower’s height reached 335 meters (1100 feet) before the antenna raised it to its final height of 421 meters (1381 feet). The antenna mast serves as the topmost part of the tower, facilitating communication and broadcasting transmissions.
