A Taste of Home in the City

Kampung Kitchen, a halal-certified restaurant known for its warm and familiar atmosphere (evoking the nostalgia of kampung, or hometown), is hosting their special “Selera Penang Buffet Highlights.”

Aneka Jeruk Chowrasta

First of all, let’s head to the stall of Aneka Jeruk Chowrasta for a taste of tradition! This section offers a wide variety of jeruk (pickles), perfect for beating the heat and experiencing a true Penang taste.

Nasi Kandar Surrrrlaiman

Hailing from the bustling port of Penang in the early 1900s, Nasi Kandar, meaning “rice carried on a pole,” was originally sold by Indian Muslim vendors to dockworkers. Today, these flavorful rice meals with curries and side dishes remain a Penang favorite, enjoyed by locals and tourists alike.

Nasi Kandar is indeed a customizable feast! A plate of rice bathed in aromatic curries becomes your canvas, then choose from a dazzling array of side dishes to complete your meal.

Kacang Panjang Goreng / Fried Long Bean

Kari Kambing / Lamb Curry

Dalca Sayur / Vegetables Dalca

Ayam Goreng / Fried Chicken

Ikan Masak Kari / Fish Curry

Kuah Kicap Manis & Kuah Masak Kurma

Side Dishes

You can choose from side dishes like okra, hard-boiled egg, salted egg, green chili, pudina mint yogurt, mango pickle, and mixed vegetables with pickles.

Now, grab the ladle and generously douse it in a symphony of curries. This “banjir” style, as the locals call it, is the authentic way to experience Nasi Kandar.

Assam Laksa

Assam Laksa, a must-try Penang staple, boasts a vibrant interplay of sour, spicy, and savory flavors.

For Penangites, a bowl of Assam Laksa isn’t complete without a generous dollop of prawn paste!

Pasembur Padang Kota & Street Market Char Koay Teow

Grab some goodies fresh off the live action counters!

Get yourself a plate of pasembur with colorful vegetables, fritters, and tofu, all drizzled with a rich and nutty peanut sauce.

Don’t miss the sambal sotong, a local favorite featuring tender squid bathed in aromatic sambal chili paste.

A plate of freshly made Char Koay Teow.
