Special thanks to The Federal Kuala Lumpur for extending this food review invitation.

Kontiki at The Federal Kuala Lumpur just reopened its doors this week. Located on the Mezzanine Level of the hotel, Kontiki combines a rustic ambience with a Polynesian theme. In compliance with social distancing guidelines, dining tables are spaced comfortably apart from one another.

Kontiki serves Tiki Weekend Hi-Tea every Saturday and Sunday. The menu covers a diverse range of Asian and Western fare. The meal is priced at RM86.00 net per adult. Children and senior citizens enjoy discounted prices of RM33.00 net and RM43.00 net respectively.

In line with food safety guidelines, most of the hot dishes are carted around the dining area and are served tableside by the staff.

Today’s choices are Chicken Varuval, Fried Meehoon, Soy Sauce Mackerel, Breaded Fish Fingers and Mashed Potato just to name a few.

Other dishes are served at the buffet counters. Kontiki has installed glass panels over the counters in effort to maintain good hygiene. Diners are also required to wear face masks when ordering food.

Do not overlook the cylinder BBQ station at the outdoor section of Kontiki. Today’s highlight is Roasted Lamb Leg, which is succulent and roasted to golden perfection. The lamb goes well with condiments like Dijon mustard and mustard cream sauce.

Chinese cuisine is represented by a variety of Yong Tau Foo. In addition, there are several types of Dim Sum in the steamer.

The seafood section has tiger prawns and New Zealand mussels on ice. If you love seafood, Kontiki offers substantially more marine delicacies during the Tiki BBQ Seafood Dinner on Friday and Saturday evenings.

The salad bar has a handful of mouthwatering choices such as Tuna Salad, Fruit Salad, Pasta Salad, Potato Salad, Chicken Salad and Coleslaw. There are also fresh produce and dressings in case you prefer to mix your own salad.

Next to the salad bar is a special collection of Western and Chinese cold cuts. Should diners enjoy ulam-ulaman, the traditional Malay salad is available too.

I am pleased to see Gado-Gado on today’s menu. This Indonesian dish comprises of tempeh (fermented soybeans), sengkuang (jicama), cucumbers, bean sprouts, tofu and peanut sauce dressing. Speaking of Indonesian food, I also enjoy the addictive taste of belinjau crackers.

Moving to desserts, there is no shortage of cakes, puddings and traditional kuih to satiate one’s sweet tooth.

Bread & Butter Pudding is also prepared today. Topped with crushed peanuts and raisins, the dessert is often enjoyed with vanilla sauce.

The Tiki Weekend Hi-Tea has 5 different menus on rotation, so these dishes are just the tip of the iceberg. Meanwhile, Kontiki serves Tiki Yam Lay Sek À La Carte Buffet for lunch and dinner every weekday.
