Special thanks to The Federal Kuala Lumpur for extending this food review invitation.
Kontiki is the all-day dining outlet at The Federal Kuala Lumpur. To comply with social distancing guidelines, dining tables in the restaurant are spaced far apart from one another. Nevertheless, the extra spacing at Kontiki affords diners with a unique dining experience.
Kontiki serves Tiki BBQ Seafood Dinner between 6:30pm and 9:30pm every Friday and Saturday. Diners can whet their palates with a plethora of Asian and Western dishes. There are 6 menus on daily rotation, ensuring that customers enjoy a different experience during each visit.
The cylinder BBQ station is where most of the action takes place. Food choices here are beef steaks, lamb cutlets, chicken wings, sausages, slipper lobsters, tiger prawns, flower crabs and squids.
Roasted Lamb Rack is served at the carvery. The succulent lamb goes well with condiments like black pepper sauce and mint sauce.
Chicken and beef satay are highly recommended. The meats are thoroughly marinated, and then grilled on skewers. Satay is best enjoyed with nasi impit (pressed rice), shallots, cucumbers and spicy peanut sauce.
Beef Wellington is essentially beef steak wrapped in puff pastry. Roasted vegetables serve as counterbalance to this meaty dish.
Roasted Whole Salmon is another notable dish this evening. The fish remains fairly juicy despite its charred appearance.
Other hot dishes are served in push carts, saving diners the hassle of walking to the buffet counters. Today’s menu includes Deep-Fried Fish, Ratatouille, Potato Gratin, Stewed Duck, Sambal Squids, Fried Glass Noodles and more.
Diners may indulge in chilled marine delicacies like slipper lobsters, tiger prawns, New Zealand mussels, oysters and flower crabs.
Do not overlook the à la minute section either! There are hawker dishes such as Mee Udang (prawn noodles), Tom Yam and Chicken Rice.
Taking a detour to the salad bar, there is a variety of salads such as Beef Salad, Tuna Salad, Potato Salad, Fruit Salad, Pasta Salad and Coleslaw. Diners have the option of making their own salads too.
I am impressed by the variety of pastries and desserts. The assortment of French pastries, cakes, puddings and Malay kuih are meant to satisfy one’s sweet tooth.
Other desserts include Chocolate Pudding and Bubur Kacang Merah (red bean soup). As for something cold, Ais Kacang is available too.
Kontiki’s Tiki BBQ Seafood Dinner is priced at RM138.00 net for adults, RM49.00 net for children and RM69.00 net for senior citizens. Meanwhile, please also check out the Tiki Weekend Hi-Tea every Saturday and Sunday afternoon!
