From 8 May 2025 to 1 June 2025, Pullman KLCC Hotel & Residences transports diners through six centuries of Peranakan heritage with its Peranakan On Plate dinner buffet. Held at Sedap Restaurant, this culinary event highlights the rich heritage of Baba Nyonya – a harmonious blend of Chinese and Malay cultures alongside Indonesian influences. Each dish features generations-old recipes preserved by Madam Luan Neo, a revered Malaccan matriarch and active member of the Persatuan Peranakan Baba Nyonya Kuala Lumpur & Selangor (PPBNKLS).

The buffet presents an extraordinary opportunity to savor authentic heirloom dishes that tell the story of the Baba Nyonya community. Among the standout offerings are Madam Luan Neo’s signature Ayam Pongteh served with soft lotus leaf buns, Nyonya Steamed Fish with Buah Keluak, and Pang Susi sweet potato buns.

Signature Ayam Pongteh served with soft lotus leaf buns
The signature Ayam Pongteh reimagines a classic Nyonya chicken stew, where tender pieces are first pan-fried for depth, then simmered with Malacca’s distinctive palm sugar – yielding a rich, smoky-sweet sauce with caramelized toffee notes.

Departing from the traditional recipe that goes with rice, this version of Ayam Pongteh is meant to go with lotus leaf buns. The buns’ earthy grain notes contrast the stew’s caramelized intensity.

With a lighter gravy than the usual version, this refined adaptation is perfect for dipping, letting the buns soak up every nuanced layer.

Beyond these highlights, the menu offers an array of authentic Nyonya dishes – from savory poultry to fresh seafood preparations. You shouldn’t miss a single one!

Itek Tim Soup
One of the highlights this evening is Itek Tim Soup – a comforting duck broth with salted vegetables that delivers perfect umami richness without being overly salty.

Nyonya Asam Prawn
Nyonya Asam Prawn strikes a balance between sweet and sour notes. Plump prawns soak up the rich tamarind-based sauce – a classic Nyonya condiment with bold flavors.

Chap Chye
This Nyonya-style dish combines braised cabbage, black fungus and glass noodles in a savory-sweet sauce enriched with fermented soybeans paste and prawns.

Nasi Lemak Kukus Nyonya
Nyonya-style steamed coconut rice is simply rice and coconut milk steamed multiple times for fluffy texture and a clean, comforting sweetness.

Enjoy your Nasi Lemak Kukus Nyonya with condiments.

Beef Sambal
This Malaccan Nyonya Beef Sambal stands apart with its use of candlenuts – a foundational ingredient in authentic Peranakan cuisine. This sambal doesn’t overpower but rather enhances the gravy, making it an ideal pairing with Nasi Lemak Kukus Nyonya.

E Pian Fish with Nyonya Chili Sauce
The fish roll is prepared from fresh fish blended with local herbs, steamed to tender perfection, and then lightly fried for a crisp golden exterior that releases aromatic notes when bitten.

The Nyonya chili sauce cuts through the fish’s richness with bright, piquant notes. This makes the overall taste pleasantly balancing without overpowering.

Ngo Hiang (Chicken Lobak)
Crisp bean curd skin encases five-spice chicken in this Nyonya staple – crunchy texture contrasting with aromatic filling.

Traditionally paired with chili sauce, this Nyonya classic works equally well as a snack or meal accompaniment.

Nyonya Curry Laksa
This à la minute dish offers creamy coconut curry broth infused with toasted spices, served with your choice of noodles and fresh toppings. A Nyonya classic you absolutely must try!

Pai Tee
Pai Tee features crisp “top hat” pastry shells filled with fried jicama, shredded egg, tomato and coriander for contrasting textures. Notice the distinctive rim that resembles a top hat?

Cendol Pulut Tai Tai
The cendol brings chilled, slippery green rice flour noodles swimming in rich coconut milk and palm sugar syrup – sweet with a toasty caramel depth.

Against this cool backdrop, the indigo-hued Pulut Tai Tai (made of steamed blue pea flower glutinous rice) brings a comforting, slightly salty counterpoint with its dense yet tender bite.

Kuih Keh Swee
Kuih Keh Swee’s soft, slightly chewy consistency makes a contrast with its crisp coconut topping.

Bubur Cha Cha
Warm coconut milk pudding with taro and sago – a Nyonya classic of textures and gentle sweetness.

Beyond Baba Nyonya specialties, Sedap Restaurant’s dinner buffet consistently delivers an impressive spread. Guests will find a satisfying array of options from traditional starters to a wide selection of hot dishes. The variety never fails to please.
