At The Westin Desaru Coast Resort, there’s genuinely no need to venture out — the experiences come to you. Here’s everything you can do without leaving the property.
The Westin Desaru Coast Resort has a dedicated Recreational team that handles all recreational aspects within the resort—indoors and outdoors. Tailored to all guests of all ages, the goal is to ensure that everyone feels fully recharged during their stay here.
In general, there are more activities on weekends and during school holidays (Malaysian and Singaporean). Here is a 3D/2N itinerary on a typical weekend. Please note that specific programs may vary week to week, and outdoor activities are subject to favorable weather conditions.
Instead of driving off-site or exhausting themselves with logistics, guests can simply immerse themselves in a restorative retreat and return home fully recharged. Provides inspiration for solo travelers, couples, and families alike. Most of the activities are complimentary unless stated otherwise.
Day 1: Arriving at the Sanctuary
The official check-in time is at 4:00 PM. Enjoy a refreshing welcome drink as soon as you arrive. Even if you arrive earlier, you can proceed to register, and the staff will inform you if your room is available sooner. Meanwhile, there are lots to explore within the resort while waiting!
Garden Walk (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
The resort has plenty of lush vegetation within its grounds, which can be explored via the Umbisi Botanical Trail, the Belantara Botanical Trail, and the Belukar Botanical Trail.
If you are staying in a Terrace Garden room, you have direct access to the Umbisi Botanical Trail. What a great way to get close to greenery!
The pathways of the Umbisi Botanical Trail are easy walk on. There are also benches along the way if you wish to sit down and take in the beautiful scenery.
The Belantara Botanical Trail takes you among taller trees, giving you a more shaded stroll.
If you are interested in botany, you’ll appreciate the numerous identification tags on many plants along the walkways. This is a wonderful educational experience specially for children who have little exposure beyond the city.
Belukar Botanical Trail takes you near a small pond filled with water lilies.
There are more plants to explore here, many of which are used for cooking or in local medicine.
While you can explore the gardens at your leisure, you may opt to join the daily guided tour, which usually starts at 5:00 PM at the hotel lobby.
After a relaxing garden stroll, it’s time to freshen up and head to Seasonal Tastes for a well-deserved buffet dinner. The buffet theme varies by season, but the food quality never fails to impress. You may refer to some of our previous experiences here:

Live Music (7:30 PM – 10:30 PM)
After dinner, head over to MIX Lounge at the hotel lobby for around of after-meal drinks. There is live music performances on Friday and Saturday evenings.
Coral Lounge (9:00 AM – 9:00 PM)
If you prefer somewhere more kid-friendly, head over to the indoor games room known as Coral Lounge. Show off your skills in a game of table tennis or pool. There are also variety of table games such as Chess and congkak.
Gather your buddies for a raucous game of Jenga, and cheer as the tower finally collapses. Alternatively, simply borrow a book from the mini-library and spend a quiet evening tucked into a comfortable chair.
The Coral Lounge also has a dedicated play area for the little ones. In addition, there are PlayStation consoles for rent between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM.
Day 2: A Day of Adventure
Morning Yoga (8:00 AM – 9:00 AM)
Yoga sessions are held on weekend mornings, usually amidst the greenery of the Umbisi Botanical Trail if the weather permits. The yoga instructor can tailor the yoga moves to suit your level of comfort—whether you are a first-timer or a stretching buff.
Westin Family Kids Club (9:00 AM – 6:00 PM)
After breakfast, children can expend their newly acquired fuel at the Westin Family Kids Club. This amenity is best suited for kids aged between 4 and 12. Toddlers under 4 can join but require parental supervision at all times.
Throughout the week, there are creative activities such as batik painting, tote bag design, mask making, origami, doodle art, and more.
During school holidays, there are supervised holiday camp activities too.
Treasure Hunting (12:00 PM – 6:00 PM)
Do you love treasure hunting? Get the clue sheet from the Westin Family Kids Club and explore every nook of the resort to find the ten hidden visual landmarks!
Once you complete the puzzle, head over to the Beach Bar a special reward!
Muara Lagoon (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
Muara Lagoon is free-form swimming pool surrounded by lush greenery.
There are separate sections for adults and children.
Here is an interesting fun fact: The stones lining the pool are crafted from volcanic rock sourced from Sukabumi, Indonesia.
These mineral-rich stones give the pool a greenish hue with streaks white and red patterns.
Sukabumi stones are renowned for their holistic and wellness-enhancing characteristics.
Muara Lagoon is open from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. However, we recommend visiting in the morning when the sunlight is gentle and the coastal breeze is cool.
Settle into an in-pool lounger and let the mineral-rich water soothe your skin!
Heavenly Spa by Westin (10:00 AM – 10:00 PM)
Heavenly Spa by Westin is the resort’s flagship, award-winning wellness center. Crafted as a sanctuary for serenity and relaxation, it features signature treatments designed to revitalize both body and soul.
Popular treatments include the Heavenly Spa Signature Massage, Aromatherapy Massage, Urutan Malaysia, and Muscle Release. Due to overwhelming demand, Heavenly Spa operates on an appointment basis.
The Els Club Desaru Coast (7:30 AM – 5:00 PM)
Golf enthusiasts will find themselves right at home! The Els Club Desaru Coast is located just minutes from the resort and can be reached via shuttle service. This world-class country club is divided into the 27-hole Ocean Course and the 18-hole Valley Course.
WestinWORKOUT Fitness Studio (24 Hours)
The Westin Desaru Coast Resort has a large and well equipped fitness center called WestinWORKOUT Fitness Studio. The gym is open 24/7 and in-house guests get complimentary access. If you prefer to work out in the comfort of your own room, you can request for a WestinWORKOUT gear lending kits for a small fee.
Steam Room & Whirlpool (10:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
After a workout session, reward yourself with a rejuvenating session at the steam room or whirlpool. There are separate facilities for men and women.

Cocktail-Mixing Class (3:00 PM – 4:00 PM)
Get some hands-on experience in crafting cocktails, and look cool while doing it!
The mixologist leads the class by first explaining the basic concepts of bartending, utensils, and ingredients.
Today, we learn to concoct the Cosmopolitan, an all-time favorite. The cocktail is prepared with citron vodka, triple sec liqueur, cranberry juice, and fresh lime juice. Once the mixing is done, sit back and enjoy your self-made cocktail!
The cocktail-mixing experience is offered daily but requires 1-day registration in advance. The class is priced at RM 88 nett per person and includes light snacks.
Cooking Class (4:30 PM – 5:30 PM)
Interested in cooking Italian food? There is a cooking class at Prego conducted by the professional chefs here. Adults and children can take part in this hands-on activity.
Splash & Float (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
Take your time to explore the resort. There is plenty of recreation for everyone! For instance, the reflecting pool at the central courtyard allows children to enjoy some rafting fun.
Teng Teng (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
This classic hopscotch game winds time back to the good, old days in the kampung!
Golf Croquet (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
A faster-paced variation of the traditional sport, golf croquet blends clever tactics with shot-making precision.

The beach is located a stone’s throw from The Westin Desaru Coast Resort. The best months to visit Desaru Coast is between April and June when the water is calmer.
The pristine beach is perfect for a relaxing stroll along the water’s edge. Children can also enjoy kite-flying or building sandcastles!
The wide shoreline provides the ultimate backdrop for pure relaxation. Nothing beats the great feeling of digging your feet into the fine sand!
Alternatively, unwind on a sunlounger while taking in the rejuvenating breeze from the sea.
Please be mindful of hazardous sea conditions. Do not enter the water when the red flag is up!
Giant Bubble (4:00 PM – 5:00 PM)
Little ones will definitely enjoy creating large soap bubbles. The perpetual sea breeze makes it almost effortless!
Infinity Pool (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
Besides Muara Lagoon, there is also an Infinity Pool at a higher elevation. Dive in a cool off in this sea-facing swimming pool!
The adjacent wading pool gives children their own space to splash around and have some watery fun.
You can also sit back and enjoy the coastal breeze from the comfort of the cabanas next to the infinity pool.
On weekends, don’t miss the aqua aerobics session at 6:00 PM. It is an instructor-led series of aerobic exercises, but done in the pool itself. Trust us, you will enjoy it!
Splash Pool Bar is open from Friday to Sunday between 11:00 AM and 7:00 PM. Happy hours are between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM.

Day 3: Third Day’s the Charm

Eager to catch the beautiful sunrise over the sea? Head to the beach around 6:30 AM and you will not be disappointed! The beach is remarkably tranquil at this hour. Take a moment for some self-reflection on the best moments in life!
RUNWestin (7:00 AM – 8:00 AM)
RUNWestin is a signature ritual at The Westin. Led by an instructor, the morning jog takes you along a scenic path beyond the resort. You don’t have to run—a slow jog or brisk walk is perfectly fine.
Along the way, enjoy the change in scenery from palm trees to banyan trees to tropical rainforest.
As you soak in the beautiful surroundings, keep an eye out for wildlife! Desaru Coast is a natural paradise for native birds like the graceful kingfishers and majestic hornbills!
Here is the Wings of Desaru photo challenge: Snap a photo of any bird you encounter, identify the species, and then submit your photo at MIX Lounge. You will be rewarded with a can of soda—perfect after a morning jog!
Bicycling (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
If you prefer to explore the surrounding on two wheels, hop on a bicycle and cruise along the scenic trails at your own pace. Children bicycles and adult bicycles with child seats are available. The first hour of use is complimentary.
Belukar Playgarden (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
The Belukar Botanical Trail has an outdoor playground that is easy to overlook.
Let your little ones play to their hearts’ content at the wooden treehouse with swings and slides.
Challenge family or friends to a strategic game on the Giant Chess board on the lawn. White moves first.
